Join us for the inaugural event of RU Center for Psychoanalysis!
The Queerness of Psychoanalysis: Emptiness is the Cure for Psychoanalysis
Hi everyone
I am so overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback and support RU Center for Psychoanalysis is already receiving. Thank you all so much for being here! Your enthusiasm has inspired me to start hosting events right away, rather than waiting til September. I’m happy to announce the first event in a series celebrating The Queerness of Psychoanalysis!
Wednesday, July 16
The Queerness of Psychoanalysis: Emptiness is the Cure for Psychoanalysis
The Queerness of Psychoanalysis: Emptiness is the Cure for Psychoanalysis
Welcome to the first online event in a series celebrating The Queerness of Psychoanalysis!
Despite the spectral presence of queerness and transness, both remain hotly contested subjects within the realms of clinical and theoretical psychoanalysis. Critiques directed at the overtly conservative, and at times reactionary, side of psychoanalysis are well-founded: there exists a long record of open pathologization of queer and trans* modes of being. And yet at the same time, psychoanalysis has from the beginning been a site of queer and trans* creation and resistance.
Join editors Myriam Sauer and Vanessa Sinclair for a thought-provoking discussion delving into numerous questions related to queerness, transness, gender, and sexuality, focusing on Myriam's chapter "Emptiness is the Cure for Psychoanalysis". Don't miss this opportunity to engage with cutting-edge ideas and perspectives in the field of psychoanalysis and queer theory. Register now to secure your spot!
This is the first event in a series exploring the various contributions to the edited collection The Queerness of Psychoanalysis: From Freud and Lacan to Laplanche and Beyond (Routledge, 2025). It is also the inaugural event of Rendering Unconscious Center for Psychoanalysis. Come celebrate with us!
There will be ample time for discussion.
Please note, there are 2 ways to access the event:
