Next up: Lacan + RU Center celebrates one year!
Intro to Psychoanalysis continues July 11th
Excited to see you all for the next installment of An Introduction to Psychoanalysis Saturday, July 11th!
In the previous class, we focused on the work of revolutionary psychoanalysts, Otto Gross, Wilhelm Reich, Otto Fenichel and Erich Fromm, and reviewed Anna Freud, Melanie Klein, Donald Winnicott and the Controversial Discussions.
In this class, I’ll provide an overview of the life and work of French psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan, and go over some major concepts.
This meeting is extra special, as at the end of class we’re going to turn off the recording and celebrate the one year anniversary of RU Center for Psychoanalysis!
Karima had a wonderful idea of how we can get to know each other even better as we build this community: we’ll each bring an item to share, whether it be an artwork, song, object, poem, dream, selection of writing, or anything else you’d like! We’ll each take turns presenting, while the others share in the chat any free associations, thoughts, or feelings the piece evokes. That way we’re sharing something more personal and creative with one another, and not just introducing our “professional” selves. I love this idea, and hope you all do, too!
We will be meeting online for 2+ hours beginning at 12PM NYC (9AM Vancouver/ 5PM London/ 18:00 Stockholm/ 19:00 Beirut) on Saturday, July 11th.
Lecture will be recorded and archived here at Substack.
You may join in this class anytime! The recordings of all previous classes in this course are archived under CLASSES, where you may watch them at your own pace. Read more about Intro to Psychoanalysis HERE.
All paid subscribers at RU Center for Psychoanalysis Substack are automatically enrolled in my Intro to Psychoanalysis course, which meets once a month, PLUS receive zoom links to attend all RU Center events LIVE. ALL events are recorded and archived here at Substack under CLASSES.
Check out the schedule of upcoming events HERE.
For this class, I recommend taking a look at Lacan’s paper on the Mirror Stage, which I uploaded to the Google Drive. You may find the link to the Google Drive in the Discord server. As always, readings are suggested, not required.
Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday, July 11th!
